OMG!  I mean OMFG!  This ep... this ep was sheer perfection... until the last 5 seconds.  Can I just pretend those last 5 seconds never took place and go back to saying OMMFG!!!!  David Hewlett was incredible, Joe Flanigan was amazing, and the two of them together was magic to behold.  And the team gathering around Rodney and.... and .... and....

John trying to be upbeat then turning away and his chest actually hitching when he took a breath.  Just... I felt my own throat constrict.  The way  Rodney was always looking for John when he got scared and how Keller was almost promising John would be there as if it was a treat and the way Rodney's just completely lit up when he saw John because it *was* a treat!  Rodney running through the halls *looking* for John and banging on his door and calling his name and John feeling guilty he had left him when he thought he was asleep.... oh, God, I think I have my detail fic right there!....and John promising he was there and not going anywhere and trying to make it right and the pier!  Dear God, the scene with them on the pier with Rodney *WEARING JOHN'S JACKET*.  Then they fall right back into the snark when Rodney comes back to himself in the cave.  And John convincing Keller to use what she had available because it was Rodney's only chance and you just *knew* John wasn't going to give up trying to convince her until she did it.

Ronon insisting he owed it to Rodney to take him to the Shrine and Teyla helping him walk and Jeannie breaking down the first time she sees him and Ronon trying to comfort her.... just... just...  Yes, I'm babbling and I know it but I DON'T FUCKING CARE because I'm on such a high right now and it come back on again in 28 minutes and I'll just turn it off before the crappy ending that did not need to be there.  I mean, I know *why* they did it given some spoilers I've seen for the back half of the season but it would have been just as good if not better if they had left that stupid confession out.

But the rest, the rest was pure unadulterated heaven and I'll just add this first 59 min and 55 seconds of the ep on a continuous loop with Tao of Rodney and Doppelganger and die a happy woman now.

Since I'm being all :| in my journal, I'll come over here and splash about in your optimistic squee because except for the last TOTALLY UNNECESSARY AND OUT OF LEFT FIELD scene, this episode was brilliant and Teamy and McSheppy and wonderful. ♥

It really was out of left field, especially since John and Rodney had more chemistry than Rodney and Keller had in any scene they had together. I mean, even when he was alone with Keller, Rodney was wanting John to be there. But I *refuse* to let that one little line ruin this episode for me because it was *wonderful* up until that point.

It was made of utter awesomeness. Right from that opening scene my stomach was in knots from emotion.

Nothing beats the chemistry between Flanigan and Hewlett and I love it when a show makes me teary eyed. Jeannie? Ronon? Even Keller. So touching.

All the missing scenes that hint at how John stayed with Rodney and was Rodney's safe harbor offer promise of some fanfic in the future, I think.

Safe harbor is the perfect term for what John was for Rodney in this ep because it was so obvious Rodney was clinging to John like a lifeline in this ep. Sooooooo good.

maybe instead of dying a happy woman you could write some fanfic on this episode first? ;)

Yeah, I loved the John-Rodney scenes. Aw.....

I think Rodney meant he loved her in the way a friend loves another friend, don't you? Because, obviously, obviously, he *loves* John! And OMG all the touching! And team!! This show made me incredibly happy, and I kept waiting for them to actually kiss, out on the pier. And Ronon, with the talking to Jeannie and making sure she knew about the shrine!! And Woolsey, with his father with Alzheimer's! Just - total love for this episode. Total, absolute love.

Man, if only that was what he meant. Because, I agree, it is so obvious Rodney loves John and John loves Rodney in this ep. And yes, touching all the time. John never touches anyone, or if he does, it's like he's touching a cactus. But it was like John made a point to touch Rodney in every scene. God, it was just...happy, happy sigh.

It was so great! Except for that last snippet. In my head I decided that Rodney meant platonic love but didn't remember how to explain that properly. Or that he should clarify that he's already basically married to John.

Yes! That's it exactly... Jennifer, I love you, but I'm *in* love with John. Sigh, if only that's what he meant because this ep was just pure love between the boys.

You know, I would have been just as happy to see this as a pure friendship ep because I do still love thinking of the boys as being as close as brothers... closer even in my gen. And even from a gen standpoint, it makes sense John would be the person he would cling to. It was just pure happiness.

I know! It was pure, amazingness! Just wonderful! Team bonding, you could feel the love they all have to each other, and OH MY GOD! The McShep! They- I just...gah! The touching! John kept touching him! And being how normally he's all... totally non-physical, that was basically like throwing Rodney down and shagging him right infront of everyone. God that was awesome! This will go down as best episode ever!

Oh and the end? My friend fanwanked John was standing next to Keller and poor Rodney just got confused. *nods* Yes, that's what happened!

I agree completely! The touching was just amazing and so natural on John's part when he's usually so prickley when he touches that it just stood out every time John did touch Rodney. And he touched him in every damn scene they had together. I loved this ep to pieces and will just block out those last few seconds.

I have given up trying to sleep because I'm apparently 4 years old and waiting to open my presents on Christmas morning. Damnit download, work quicker!!!

I;m sure he just meant platonic too, and when I see it, I will totally have justification for it, especially if John is suddenly able to touch some-one. If that's not love then what the hell is?

I understand completely. I was secretly hoping it would get leaked somehow so I could find it and download it early and I never want to do that. *G* John seriously touches him in nearly every scene... and not just patting a shoulder... full on arm around his shoulder, gripping his arms, and many many times. I think John was in physical contact with Rodney more times in this ep than he's ever been in physical contact with everyone else combined in the history of the show. It was pure heaven.

Yep, minus the last 5 seconds, a perfect ep. OMG, so much love for the team here, but especially John and Rodney. Their love is so obvious - the whole scene on the pier is pure gold. Yes, the touching and the looks and the pure determination to get Rodney to the Shrine. Yay for Jeannie telling Keller she was making the decision. I'm going with the "platonic love" because no where along the way has Rodney loved Jennifer - so it was obiviously either platonic or as his mind was slipping he got a little mixed up. Loved Ronon and Teyla and Woolsey, too. David and Joe were awesome! Home run, baby!

I seriously wonder if they threw that in so us slashers couldn't point to this ep as absolute proof of John and Rodney being a couple because, man, it was all over this ep. I just turned it off early during my second viewing and will pretend it never happened.

Okay, after a second viewing (yay for quick downloading), Keller said she was so taken with the "new McKay" that she didn't notice the symptoms in time. So - Rodney being so nice to her was new, right? I think she was totally surprised by his confession of love, and maybe she understood that it was part of the disease process. Or maybe not. But I do love that in the beginning, when he asks where John is, she says "I'm your friend, I'm right here." and he keeps calling for John.
You know - I could just watch this episode over and over and over until I have it memorized. The scene on the pier was just so overwhelmingly emotional, and John's refusal to say goodbye (echoing his reluctance in Tao of Rodney, but multiplied by a factor of 10) was so intense, and then spewing the beer and leaning closer to Rodney. And the cave...That whole scene when Rodney realizes he's not really all better? Oh, and the Last Supper, the Messiah Complex? Ha! I just love Ronon in this, his fierce determination. The team love just hits all my happy places. I can't wait to see what you write, based on this episode. I really can't! :o)

I'm watching it for the third time even as I type *G* (the HD feed for Sci Fi is the East coast feed so it come on 7 pm then again at 9 pm and then I can turn to the basic cable Sci Fi on the Pacific feed to watch the normal 10 pm showing. And I think I could watch it three more times tonight.

I would love to think the confession was nothing, but having read spoilers for later in the season, I'm pretty sure it was all a setup for things to come. Moan.

But instead of dwelling on that, I want to do something like make a drinking game to take a shot every time John touches Rodney... I'd be drunk by the halfway point. *G*

It really is as if some of the best fan fic ever was put up on the screen. And even if you don't do slash, it showed one of the best friendships ever. And team love, too.

Which is how I'm choosing to interpret the last 5 seconds. Rodney loves Jennifer...and Jeannie...and Teyla...and Ronon...and John. They're his familty.

The love between the boys was incredible... whether as best friends or more. I've watched it four times now and still can't get enough of those two scenes between John and Rodney. And I really *really* wish I could interpret the confession the same way but I fear they're going to screw this one up completely. Moan.

OMG, this episode was amazing! I started crying about the same time Jeannie did, and Rodney running to John's room? Notice how he never called him Sheppard, but John, the whole episode? John's bare feet on the pier, and his spit-take of the beer when Rodney called him Arther - that was priceless! I think I'll have to watch that whole scene a few more (maybe a hundred) times.

As for the last five seconds, I am just pretending they don't exist. Rodney was obviously suffering from Nightingale syndrome, falling for his caretaker. It wasn't Keller he was running to in the middle of the night, that's for damn sure.

Anyway, rambling. Wow, what an amazing episode!

You know, I think that's what bugged me the most about the last five seconds... Rodney didn't run to Keller, he didn't ask for her when he was scared, he didn't light up when she walked into the room. It felt very forced. On top of that, it bugs me that she gets the credit for saving him when, yes, technically, she did drill the hole in his skull but it took Jeannie forcing her into letting Rodney go after Ronon had the idea adn John convincing her to use what they had on hand. If they had followed her advice, Rodney would be dead.

But the John and Rodney scenes were incredible and now that I have it on DVR,I can just skip the annoying whiny Keller bits and go to the loving bits.

The John's were great, but actually, it was all the *touching* from John that made me so damn happy. He never touches and if he does it's always so stiff but every time they were together, he touched Rodney, even just a pat on the leg. Oh, this ep is just pure happiness!

Oh yes. Wonderful episode.

As for the 'last 5 seconds'. In my colored-lenses, Rodney was losing his mind, knew he loved SOMEONE, and seeing as Keller was there taking to him, figured it must be her. Of course, he's totally WRONG, as it's always John he calls for and runs to. *sigh*

If Rodney had just once reacted to seeing Keller the way he did when John was around, I might buy it. But he didn't seem to even notice she was there most of the time... except for that forced confession that just didn't fit in this ep at all. Even if you looked at his reactions to John as being pure friendship it didn't work. But the rest was just... oh, happiness.

Okay, best episode ever, if you ignore that last bit. Brotherly love, has to be. No other explaintion. And why didn't she realize something was wrong? Keller has been on Atlantis for a long time (even though we never saw her before Carson was gone, the backstory was that she was there) so she knew him, knew what he was like, especially when it came to his health. That she didn't recognize a problem didn't ring quite true.

And another thing. What she did in the cave. Testing her 'theory' by taking Rodney back out, causing him to scream in pain? What about her oath as a doctor to do no harm? That could have killed him right then!

Yes, loved that Rodney saw John as his safe haven, always looking for him or going to him. Always calling him 'John' and never 'Sheppard'. Loved the touching. John seemed to be getting as much comfort from it as Rodney. And back to the afor mentioned scene in the cave. When John went to Rodney, supporting him as they brought him back into the cave, that look he shot Keller was very revealing. If looks could kill, Keller would have died right there.

Lastly, about that last scene. I don't know if it's the way that Jewel is playing Keller, or it's something she was directed to do, but it seemed to me that Keller wasn't very happy. She seemed conflicted. Or maybe I'm just projecting my silent protests into it.

Anyway, lovely story. It doesn't matter if you are in the 'just best friends/team' group or in the 'slash' group. This satisfied both.

John was just soooo incredibly protective in this ep, I adored it. And it was almost as if by Rodney responding so positively and seeking out the touching, John felt free to do it.

I had many problems with the way Jewel played the role in this ep. I actually enjoyed Keller in Trio... she had a backbone and humor and if she'd player her like that in this ep I probably wouldn't have minded her so much. But she just came across as whiny and childish in a lot of way. (I swear, I thought she was going to stick her tongue out at Ronon at one point) She just had that spoiled kid, I refuse to listen to anything you say and I'm the boss so I can do whatever I want attitude. And it honestly drove me nuts. But I loved that look John gave her in the cave because I was giving her the same look. *G*
