I'll be the first to admit that for the past six months or so, I've become...shall we say disillusioned with the SGA fandom as a whole. It seems people are much more interested in bitching about TPTB, the cancellation of SGA, the upcoming season of SGU, and several rumors/spoilers/whatever about the plot/characters/whatever of SGU than reading fanfic. And while I whole heartedly agree with just about everything everyone is voicing, it's just turned into a major downer and hasn't accomplished much more than wanting me to hide away from the whole ordeal instead of remembering and celebrating why we're so upset in the first place.... because SGA was tons of fun with wonderful characters that I want to live on one way or another.
Which was why it makes the good news I was met with today all that much more wonderful, in my opinion. The winners of the SGA Fan Awards were announced and four out of five of my fics won! To say that I am shocked and flabbergasted by that news is an understatement, and those of you who felt I deserved to win, especially when I see the company of brilliant writers who were nominated in the same categories... well, I'm not sure if caplocks can express the THANK YOU! I want to send out to all of you who nominated and/or voted for the fics. But I'll try anyway.

More than that, it reminds me of why I started writing fanfiction. And no, it wasn't to win award, although that is definitely a wonderful perk. *G* It's because we all fell in love with a show and characters and wanted to expand on that love by writing and reading fic. I just hope, for a little while, people will remember that and peruse the list of winners and nominees and enjoy some wonderful fic.
Congratulations to all the winners and nominees out there and thanks for keeping the SGA world alive!

The Stargate Fan Awards are open for voting now. This really falls into the "for what it's worth" department for me this year. Once again, voting is open for less than a month (closes July 31). There are over 2000 nominations and we're expected to read them all in less than a month... I just don't see it happening. Which is too bad because there are always great fics out there that are on the long side and I don't think they get read in the same level as the shorter works. The wonderful thing about the awards is that they let you find fics you might have missed or otherwise never seen, so even if you don't have time to read them all before the deadline, I hope you do take the time to go back and read some great fic.
This year I have 5 nominated works in the competition, and only two of them are in the categories where I suggested they be placed. My AU fic Never Wanted to Dance is now in gen actions/adventure because there weren't enough noms to have a stand alone AU category. They created a new category for graphic fan fic and I agreed to place So Little Space in there although it is much more fic heavy than most of the other noms in the category. And the awards team decided that The Therapeutic Properties of Coffee had to go into ship because of the Rodney/Katie relationship, although I still don't think it is a ship fic, it just has that as the backdrop for the true story which is the John and Rodney friendship. In the ship category, I think gen readers will never even look twice at it and ship readers are going to be highly disappointed when it isn't a true ship fic. I just wanted to let you know about that because I'm sure there will be people wondering, why the hell did she put this fic in this category? And the truth is, I didn't. *G*

| The sga_genficathon had the author reveal today, so I can post this here so that you can find it if you happened to miss it over at the ficathon. I'm hoping people will go back and try the other paths on this fic even if they do make it safely to the end. Depending on the path you take, the story can change. Oh, and I didn't get to give my thanks to my betas... Koschka and kodiak_bear .
Title: Cairns written for the sga_genficathon Genre: Team Prompt: Stone circles or cairns Word Count: ~45,000 written but it could be as little as a couple thousand to a couple hundred thousand depending on how many ways you read it. Rating: T Warnings: There is the potential for character death, but don't worry, you can always start over and try again if it happens. Also, images that may be slow to download on dialup. Summary: Forced into a native rite of passage, the team must each face life and death challenges along their chosen path. The only catch is that it's up to you to choose that path for them. Notes: This fic is a Choose Your Own Adventure story. If you aren't familiar with those, it means you will be given choices at various points, including which character you will follow, the direction they go, etc. Simply click on the persented option you choose and the story will continue based on that choice. The choices could lead to safety or even more dire situations, it could bring team members together, or even a death. Don't panic, though. If you do make a bad decision, you'll be given the choice to start over at the end of each section. And when you finish following one character, you can go back and follow another, or the same character with different choices... the story may even change if you do. Because of the many, many links involved with this fic, and the anonimity required for the ficathon, the entire story is posted on a secret LJ all of its own. This includes the comments. | The sga_genficathongoes live on May 1, and if the mods do like last year, it means fic will begin posting at 12:01 am, May 1... which is just a few hours away. I do have a fic in the ficathon, but you'll have to wait until the week of anonymous posting is complete to know which one is mine. The fun part of the anonymous posting is that you get to try to guess the authors after each genre is posted. The schedule of posting is below, so you've got a week of great fic to look forward to!

In addition to the ficathon, the Beyond Atlantis Virtual Season 6 is set to debut on May 7 with new eps posted the 7th of every month. I'm set to write episode 3 (I'm a little over halfway done!) so mine will be posted in July, but you'll have 2 great eps before mine to read and enjoy then many more afterward. I'm actually not sure if the website is open to those not involved with the VS at this point, but I will post the official link when the site goes live in a week.
Between these two fics, I've been loaded down, but don't worry, Marla, as soon as the VS fic is done in a few weeks, I'll be starting on yours. *G*

Oh, geez, I almost forgot the zine that is coming out this month! Brotherhood 7 will be available at MediaWest and mail order starting in early May. It's a multifandom zine but has several SGA and SG1 fics in it, including my fic Going Dutch. So I'm faced with a dilemma here and I'm honestly not sure how I want to proceed at this point. As those of you who read my fics know, I tend to use curse words somewhat liberally in my fics. For me, it seems a natural extension for certain characters, specifically John and Rodney. The editor of one of the zines has asked me to remove pretty much anything that wouldn't make it past the show censors, in essence saying the stronger language violates their P13 rating limitations. Now let me just say, I firmly believe, as editors, they have every right to restrict what they print. The zine is ultimately their baby and they control the vision of what they want to present. The thing is, I have never rated a fic above PG13/T for language alone and I would never think twice about reading a fic with F bombs scattered throughout that was rated T. For me the R/M rating is for fics with explicit sex and/or graphic violence and disturbing themes such as rape or extreme torture. I think it is also fandom dependent. If I was writing in Harry Potter or Teen Titans, I would probably be much more conservative since much younger readers are going to be the primary audience as opposed to something like SGA which is primarily college age and above.
But for the zine fic, I am of two minds....
