Oh, my four year old (you can see the top of her head in one of the photos) is soooo excited. She took me for a "tour" after they gutted it when I came home from work. "There's no nothing here or here or here. All that's left is this and this and this. There's nooooo nothing else!" This has been a long time coming, no doubt... the cabinets and countertops were original from when the house was build in 1979. I'm so happy it's finally started, fingers crossed it goes quickly!

Just think, all those boxes will make great rocket ships! Also, you can find the darndest things when you look under the cupboards. Think of it as an archaeological dig, without the scientists fighting over the latest discovery!
Good luck with everything, and remember, this too shall pass!

You ain't kidding about the finds under the cupboards... and stuffed back in the far corners of the cupboards... and behind the stove. It's like there were interdimensional portals where my bundt pans had been residing because we have filled the dinning room with everything we took out and there is no way all that stuff had fit in that tiny kitchen before. When we put stuff back, that's when the massive cleaning and sorting and tossing things will take place. Gah!

Oh, believe me. This stuff is from when the house was built in 1979. It's the last major project we have for remodeling...mainly because it's one of the most expensive. sigh. But I am *thrilled* that it's started. I just hope it goes quickly. The installer thinks it will but this same company did a friend's (granted hers involved knocking out a wall and ran into a few snags) but it took almost a month! Gah! We're hoping a week or so. That I can live with.

OH! How exciting!

Well, just think how beautiful it's all going to be once it's done. I'd LOVE to get my kitchen remodeled, but we're opting to put in a pool and are about to close on the loan any day. I'll be sure to post pics of my ravaged back yard once all the digging commences. *gulp*

I suggest wine. Lots and lots of wine. Wine and strong drink at night. A relaxing bath WITH wine or strong drink, but make sure there's someone to drag you out later so you don't drown. That'd be bad.

And make sure to post AFTER pics so we can all drool and wish we'd done THAT instead of sunk a 50,000 hole in our backyards (I was overruled by kids and spouse *sigh*)

More power to you with the pool. Too much work for me. I'm lazy that way. I just have friends and neighbors with pools *G*. And, yes, cannot wait for it to be done. Installer swears he'll have the cabinets in this week... of course then we they have to measure for countertops and we wait for those to come in. But being able to put crap back in the cabinets will be a huge improvement.

I know, I'm excited to see how it turns out. Although there's always that fear that they'll be installed and I'll look at it and say, "WTF was I thinking???" Heeee.

Admit it, it's kinda fun. What kind of countertop and cabinets are you putting in? Changing the layout? There's nothing like a good remodeling, and like someone said earlier, the kids can have a blast playing in the empty boxes.

No major change to the layout...not much we can do with the shape and space. Although the one wall that has the mural on it in the before picture did have a pot/pan rack, a storage unit my hubby build with a work surface, a bakers rack with my cookbooks, and a mini-fridge that the microwave sat on. (He moved it all before I got a chance to take the photo.) That wall will have a nice microwave station that we can also put the fridge in so it is hidden in matching cabinets, more cabinets above and shelves to the side and form a little nook for a small diner table and chairs for eating/extra work surface.

I'm really into the contemporary style of furnishing...sleek and clean lines and let natural textures and colors act as the decoration. So we went with just flat faced cabinets in natural cherry (so the wood grain really comes out), long, sleek stainless hardware (to match all the appliances... new dishwasher. YAY!) and we went with formica countertops in a honed slate (the floors are natural slate tile we installed 10 yrs ago when we first moved in). It's a shade lighter than the floor but still the same tones and it has a texture to it to mimick the flooring and look a little more natural. So fingers crossed that it all works together once it's installed.

Well, we're not completely done, which is why I haven't posted anything. We're at about 90% though, so I'll try to post a quick update pic... just ignore the lasagna prep that is taking place on the counter. *G* Oh, and excuse the fuzziness. I don't know what the heck is up with the digital camera. But it is a *vast* improvement over what we had before.

Oh, it is definitely overwhelming to come home and see half your livingroom full of boxes and basically nothing in the kitchen.
